Seattle, May 23, 2023 - Seattle has been the site of some creepy films and TV. The Vanishing movie, The Killing tv series and, of course, just north of Seattle was the fictional town of Twin Peaks.
On one of our Seattle days we rented a car and drove north for a hike at Rattlesnake Ledge. For lunch I was looking for something local and we came across Twede's Cafe by accident (thanks Google suggestions). A short drive to North Bend yielded lunch as well as a Damn Good Cup of Coffee with a slice of cherry pie.
I can see why David Lynch set his creepy story in this remote setting. The forests are thick and there is constant cloud cover.
Since we stumbled on both Twin Peaks set pieces, we were pleasantly surprised with this part of our trip.
Hotel: Silver Cloud Stadium - Pricey but convenient. If you choose to stay on Mariner game nights, be aware that gas powered blowers start running at 4am from the cleaning crew. We probably won't stay that close to the stadium again.
Breweries:
OLD STOVE BREWING
HOLY MOUNTAIN BREWING - Had one-eyed Jack neon sign
Elysian - In the Mariners / Seahawk sport complex
Lunch:
PIKE PLACE CHOWDER
Bagel Box (Pike Place)
Pike Place - Tourist area with lots of shops. Very hard to find specific restaurants (Christine and I both became frustrated). The famous fish tossing occurs when you buy fish from one of the vendors. Cruise ships dump out there so it is unbearably crowded during peak times. We went mid-morning on the second day there and enjoyed it much more. The original Starbucks is there. You can find by looking for a huge line to get it. We skipped that.
