Atlanta

Friday, July 30, 2021 Thru Sunday, Aug 1, 2021 - Focus of this trip was Atlanta Braves baseball.

Hampton Inn - Atlanta Galleria (The Battery)

2733 Circle 75 Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30339

Site Seeing:

Hank Aaron Wall

521 Capitol Ave. SW, Atlanta, GA

Directions:I-85 exit 246, or I-20 exit 58A (westbound) or 56B (eastbound). From Capitol Ave. SW turn west into the parking lot, then drive as far back and to the right as you can. Admission:Free

The Fulton County Stadium was razed in 1995 and is now a parking lot. Amidst the parking spaces are scattered markers for the bases, pitchers mound, and the left outfield wall over which Aaron broke the home run record. There were flowers and baseballs at the foot of the wall.

We attended some Braves games in this stadium in the 80's and it is amazing how the area has changed since then. I'd be surprised if this monument survives much longer given the building activity in the area. Visit it while you can.

The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum

441 John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30307

Kind of a Monet...

A walk through the life and turbulent presidency of Jimmy Carter. This was the first presidential term that I was really aware of current events, and it was fun to see the exhibits and remember the context of the times. My opinion is that Carter has been a more consequential ex-president than president. A pleasant way to spend a few areas in a calm setting. We ate a packed lunch on the grounds before going in.

Restaurants

New Realm Brewing 550 Somerset Terrace NE, Unit 101 Atlanta, GA 30306

Good beer and we enjoyed the Field Pea Humus. Had to pay $3 to park in the complex which I was not a fan of. We agreed later that we just should have eaten dinner there even though it was a little early for that.
